  The elastic and piezoelectric constants of trigonal crystals of selenium and tellurium have been determined. Their values were deduced from measurements of ultrasonic phase velocities at room temperature. The stiffnesses c E αβ in units of 10 10 N/m 2 and the piezoelectric constants e iα in C/m 2 for selenium are found to be c E 11 =±, c E 12 . Selenium- and tellurium-containing ligands are certainly on the rise, yet compared to more established ligand classes this area of research is still in its infancy. This Special Issue will highlight new discoveries of the coordination chemistry of selenium- and tellurium-containing ligands to draw attention to this exciting yet underrepresented.
